Hey, Olympics are just around the corner. I hear Matt and Dan are progressing well.

Lucky me, I go to meet Daniel when he was in Pt Melbourne carrying the Olympic torch =] A very brief, yet somehow fulfilling experience. Lol.

If you're in Melbourne on the weekend of August 26-27, then come and watch the Telstra 2000 Grand Prix that will be held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Finals tickets still available through TICKETMASTER, and heats are free!

I haven't had much access to the Internet or any of my homepaging files, which is why there hasn't been much new things on Funkyswim. I am slowly though, trying to fix any glitches for Netscape users, and I am trying to get my damn guestbook working!

In the mean time, check out some of the great Olympic Sites on the net including the official site and the NBC Olympics site.

Hey, Olympics are over, and i guess we're all suffering from some form of Post Olymic depression. I know I am. Get down to your local capital city and cheer the Athletes on at the ticker tape parades. They should prove enjoyable. Check out the Telstra Site for Parade details.

Next meet is the Telstra Australian Shortcourse Championships which also serve as the trials for the Fina World Cup series. Matt will not be competing. Tickets through ticketmaster. Go to Swimming victoria for more information.

People have been enquiring about an Olympics Photo Gallery.. and i promise you.. It will come. I actually have a bunch of Yr 12 exams coming up.. so i really can't do much to Funkyswim until after! So if you'd like to know when i put up an Olympic photo gallery.. please subscribe to my Mailing List, and you'll receive an e-mail informing you.

Cool, my exams are over, so that means i can get back to telling you all about what's been happening.

Firstly, new sections to Funkyswim include the new Olympic Photo Gallery with only a few pics of Daniel & Matt, mostly Lenny. But also a few photos of Olympians at the Melbourne Olympian parade. I actually was in a great spot!

Daniel was also a runner in the Paralympic torch relay in Sydney, the day before the Opening Ceremony.

At the Australian Shortcourse, Daniel had a great meet coming in first in the 1500m. he posted his best time since 1993.

That was Daniel's last meet before he goes in for shoulder surgery in December where he will be based in Melbourne. This means he will not be competing at the Fina World Cup. Currently, Daniel is holidaying away in the Cayman's and the United States. It is expected Daniel will not compete for approximately 2 years, but he is aiming for Athens, Greece 2004.

As for Matt? I have no idea. Since he did not compete at the Australian Shortcourse, he has not secured a place in the Fina World Cup. Talk about irony. Melbourne finally gets an International swim meet, and my fave swimmers won't be there!

But if you still want to go, tickets are available now to the finals through Ticketmaster and heats at the door. Competition date is December 5-7 at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Swimming Victoria has all the details.

10 December 2000
Matt spotted at the book launch for Ian Thorpe's new book.

Daniel is currently recovering from the first of two shoulder operations. It is expected that he will not compete again for almost 2 years.

I trust everyone celebrated the new year comfortably. Hopefully, this year i'll be
able to keep Funkyswim going as strong as it has been over the past 2 years. Thanks for all the support everyone. Look out for new additions and features to the site! But for now, i've added an Encounters section where you can read fan experiences with their swim heroes, or even submit your own story.

Daniel's next round of surgery on his other shoulder is expected to commence in March.

5 February 2001
Daniel Kowalski received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for service to sport on Australia Day (Jan 26). Daniel was amongst 41 other Australian gold medal Olympians to receive this honour. Fellow swimmers include Grant Hackett, Michael Klim & Ian Thorpe. Other OAM recipients are Lauren Burns (Taekwondo), Simon Fairweather (Archery) and Cathy Freeman (Athletics).

The Matt Dunn Invitational Pentathlon was held last year, early December. Matt is the Australian Institute of sports longest scholarship holder of 10 years. This event is open for all age group swimmers and consists of the following 5 events: 50m fly, 50m back, 50m breast, 50m free and 200m IM. More information can be found at the ACT Swimming Website.

16 March 2001
Daniel went for his second lot of surgery, this time on his right shoulder. "I hate the brace already. Thats a problem as i am in it for at least another 6 weeks."

It is the Australian Swimmer of the Year awards tonight, held at Crown Casino in Melbourne.

Next week the Telstra Australian Swimming Championships begin on the 24th, and will continue until the 31st. They are being held in Hobart, and also double as team selection for the World Championships.

New addition to funkyswim: Forum, a place for fans to post messages, which can be located under 'Fun Stuff' in the navigational menu.
